Annotate on PDF files with PDF Editor for Mac

We often have the demands to annotate or make some markup on PDF documents when we are viewing PDF. PDF Editor for Mac provides the strong ability to annotate and markup PDF files on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, Lion included).

There are 4 major functions for you to annotate the PDF files. All the functions are listed in the dropdown menu beyond the Tools menu.

Annotate Tools

Add Sticky Note and Text Box
There are two ways to annotate your PDF file.
You can add sticky note to wherever you want, just click the Sticky Note button on toolbar or Annotate menu, and then click on the location on the page as you wish, type in anything in the yellow text box. Next time when you view the PDF file, double click on the yellow icon, the text box will appear.

Text Box is different from the sticky note, it overlays the page contents. They can be moved around, resized, and also edited.
To make a Text Box, first select the text box tool in the toolbar.

A text box will appear, enter the content you want and click ok when you finish. You can see the text you just typed will appear on the top left of the current page. Then you can move to the right position by dragging the box. Change the typeface, color, or text alignment from the Format menu.

Now you can see the difference between annotation and text box. Annotation can help you record your ideas or thought, or take some notes when you read the PDF document.
And you can use text box to fill out a form or add a signature to PDF document before printing.

You can add drawing and scribble imprints over the PDF pages. There are six shapes for you to choose. They are Arrow, Line, Rectangle, Oval, Polygon, and Cloud. All the shapes are listed on the toolbar. Or you can select them from the Annotate menu.


Free-hand Drawing and Add Links
Click Pencil button on the toolbar, and you can add free-hand drawings on the page. The Eraser tool can help you remove the drawings by Pencil. Click Link tool on toolbar, you can select an area to add URL or any page in the PDF file. When readers move the move over the area, they can click on it and link to the Internet or the page you set.

Highlight the content
You can apply a highlight color to specific selected text. You can use this to tool to mark words or sentences in a PDF document.

Besides highlighting, you can also underline or strike through any selected text. All of these functions help you to mark the content easier.

If you want to remove the highlighting, just repeat the steps above to select text, and then press backspace on keyboard to remove.
